The 9th Law of Stewardship
Hi, I’m Steve Beaman and welcome to this SBG Cast. We’re continuing on our Spiritual Path in the study of the 33 laws of Stewardship. Today, we’re looking at the 9th law; The Law of Eager Willingness.
Is it enough just to give? Or does it matter to what we give? Well I believe that no matter what your faith, giving, at least true giving, is indicated by what you give to. Are we giving only to satisfy our own ego’s, our own agenda’s, or worst case, some political agenda where were actually gaining by our giving? Or, are we truly giving to a need that even though it’s perhaps not what we want, we know it’s important. In my case, I try to find God’s purposes for my gifts, otherwise, in my mind, there not gifts at all.
To “eagerly” be willing to give means at the core that we should want to give. Throughout my life, and I’m sure you’ve seen people like this too, I’ve met people who give of their time, talent, energy etc, but do so in a way that’s anything but eager. In fact, it’s often times like pulling teeth to get them to give anything. Our nation, and in fact the world, seems sometimes to breed narcissists as fast as rabbits, and this self-serving love of self denies a person the ability to eagerly give of themselves. Have we become so consumed by our drive to serve our own needs that when it comes to helping others, it’s too much of a nuisance, too much of a pain? I hope that at the individual level, we can work to reestablish once again the notion of “eager” giving in our communities.
Now on my walk, this eagerness translates into my eagerness to serve God. To me (and again here, this is my path, and you may have another), but to me, God doesn’t want, or need my time, my talents, my money or anything else. God wants my heart. And if I’m true to myself, and true therefore to God, can my giving be anything but eager? Many of us have been in love. Love is a big word, but one thing it means is that we WANT to give to that other person. We’re not hesitant to give, or giving because we feel we have to. No, we give because we’re eager to give because of our love of that person.
So, if we’re eager to give, the question that naturally follows is to give to what. Now clearly, there are innumerable needs that can be met by our giving. Some financial, some experiential, and the list is long and wide. The whole purpose of The Steve Beaman Group is to provide as much knowledge and experience, and wisdom to help people on their journeys through life. Is this God’s purpose? I don’t know, and I’m not nearly arrogant enough to believe I so directly know God’s will. But, I can tell you this as openly and honestly as I can. My reason for being part of the Steve Beaman Group is give as much as I have for the hopefull betterment of our communities, and our society at large. I believe strongly that we have enough financial resources to solve many of our problems, but we often don’t have the information we need to make the choices that need to be made,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], And I believe that having people share experience and ideas to help other people, everyone is lifted up.
You and I will each make our own decisions as to what God’s will is in our life, and therefore where our eager giving should be given. I hope that this law will do perhaps no more than cause you think about where your giving, your giving of your time, your talents, your money, will serve its’ highest purpose. Perhaps, offering your insights through the Steve Beaman Group will help you fulfill your desires to give of yourself.
I’m Steve Beaman and thanks for listening.
