Who doesn’t, right? While THIS ERA proves to be one of home-based businesses becoming a revolutionized and more prominent way of creating an income, I think it’s important to point out that it takes a certain amount of dedication, drive and focus to create success.
Obviously, the reasons I want to work from home can be much different than someone else’s. The decision to work from home for most people comes from a need or purpose to fulfill. While the reasons could seem endless, here are some of the most common:
? Stay home to care for children or a loved one whom you’ve taken responsibility for
? Personal injury that’s limited your abilities
? You are looking for something that satisfies a different interest
? The daily commute makes you cringe
? Your attracted to the leisure of creating your own hours
? Possibly you look to create a much larger paycheck on your own
? You no longer want to answer to a boss
? To be able to travel whenever, wherever
? Or maybe as some people will candidly answer, “You just really love the idea of staying in your p.js all day.”
Whatever YOUR reasons are, the truth is, it takes a certain amount of dedication and discipline to make a home-based-business a success. Although having flexible hours is a common attraction to why anyone wants to work in the comfort of their home, it is absolutely necessary to PUT IN the hours to produce compensation. Consequently, this can be a major limitation to many people’s success because of the ease of letting other interests or activities take precedence.
I put together a checklist to help you make your decision to work from home be fruitful. Remember though...
Keep it Enjoyable and Most Importantly, Productive!
1. Start Your Day With Clarity And Focus. Take some time to mentally focus on what needs to be accomplished and what you expect the outcome to be at the end of your day. Remind yourself of the important reasons you decided, “Why I want to work from home”.
2. Set Your Hours And Stick To Them. Buy a daily/weekly planner, go through each day and week and schedule the number of hours you need to commit to your business. Block out time frames of time each day and consider your most productive hours as well as the times of least distraction. Be sure and leave room for down-time!
3. Take A Break every couple hours. If you’re sitting all the time, it’s best to try and get moving, stretch, throw in a quick 10-20 minute walk or workout or play with your dog or kids. Be sure and take a lunch or snack break and drink plenty of water.
4. When You’re Not Working, be sure and get the things done that need done, like laundry, errands and housework. Don’t put it off till later in the week- when you are scheduled to work. I find it best to keep housework done on the weekend. In our home,Burberry Scarfs, the kids help out so we all get it done and then leave time to play or travel.
5. Don’t Answer The Phone If You Don’t Need To. If your mom, sister or best friend assumes that your home and free to visit- on their schedule, kindly inform them that you have hours to keep and you are dedicated to seeing them through. They can leave a message and you can call back later – to give them your full attention.
6. Plan Your Day And Mark Your Plan. Each night, set your work agenda so the next morning when you hit it, you already have a plan. Be realistic, at the end of the day mark your progress. If you are trying to cram 10 hours of work into 2, then reevaluate the real possibilities for tomorrow. Don’t set yourself up for failure. Also, be sure you stop working when you tell your family you will.
7. Measure Your Progress. Look back at the week and review what it was you wanted to accomplish and what you actually did. Be honest with yourself. Were you out weeding the garden, cleaning the bathroom or doing a pedicure when you had planned to be working?
8. Take Care Of Yourself To Feel Good. It’s important to take care of yourself in a manner as if you are engaging in a work environment. By that I mean, take the time to clean yourself up and get dressed. If you are in clothes that make you too relaxed, you may end up going back to bed. It’s far too easy to be lazy when you’re too comfortable. So, dress like you but think about how WHAT YOU WEAR makes you feel in relation to what you need to accomplish.
I hope these tips help you to be productive in your quest for success. I know that while I LOVE to AND I want to work from home, I NEED to work from home SUCCESSFULLY! I hope you will too.
